Top 7 ways to mix and match patterns for a relaxing and calming bedroom
Your bedroom is a place for comfort, relaxation and a good wind down at the end of the day. That’s why it is so important to get the feel of your room right for you. The way you style this room should be different than the rest of the house. The main home is full of life and entertainment, but there is something really private and intimate about a bedroom that only a few chosen people get to experience. It is a space that allows you to see yourself at your core, and express your deepest passions and personality without people peeping in and commenting on it. But how can I get the right feel that matches me? It is easier said than done I know, but with these few little tips i have discovered it is a great start to get you playing and finding your own personal style.
USE 3 PATTERNS
A perfectly balanced room has a mixture of 2-3 patterns to help your eyes flow from one area to another, making the whole space part of your bedroom, not just the bed itself. This can be done through artwork, wallpaper and even a rug.
GROUP YOUR PATTERNS TOGETHER
Having different patterns from the same family can really help you create a calming bedroom. Florals go really well with paisley. geometric go really well with animals and so on. Top Tip: Have 1 large, 1 medium and 1 small pattern to create harmony between your patterns!
CHOOSE A DOMINANT PATTERN
Your bedroom should have a focus on 1 pattern and the other 2 being accent patterns, If you choose to have a plain room with little pattern, pick more than 1 object as your main pattern so this can still be achieved.
Get your colour wheel out and make sure the colours you have picked for your bedroom go with each other. There’s nothing worse that pairing 2 colours together that do not compliment each other. Don’t Forget: There is no such thing as a bad colour, just a bad colour choice when pairing them together.
PICK A CONTRASTING COLOUR
Nothing screams personality and life than having a pop of your favourite colour into the room. This can be as maximal or minimal as you like but it should make a statement to show off who you really are, after all this is the space that you are going to wake up and go to sleep in, so it should make you feel alive and as happy as possible.
BALANCE IT OUT WITH SOME PLAINS
As much as I love patterns, plains are just as important. You want to create a space that allows you to relax at the end of the day. Your plain colours will work with the patterns by spreading them out over the space and make room for the elegant feel that will make your bedroom work for you.
